Persuasive writing

WALT- write to persuade our audience

We had to write to convince our teacher that we should go on a class trip to a place we want to go.

This is what Blake wrote.

Native animal brochures

WALT- use Canva to make a brochure.

We have been learning how to use Canva to make a brochure.

We had to find information about a Native animal and add it to the brochure using different headings and finding different pictures to make it look more exciting.

Next time we want to use Canva to make a brochure about a different native animal.

Season poems

WALT- write a poem.

We had to choose a season to write about.

Some of us wrote about winter because it is our favourite season.

Some wrote about summer because we like all the things you can do in summertime.

We liked writing our poems because we could try and use words that rhyme. It was fun trying to come up with the words and ideas to write.

Have you ever written a poem about the seasons?

What is your favourite season?

ANZAC Art

WALT- add pictures to our blog posts.

This week we have been learning about ANZAC Day and why we celebrate it.

We have done some writing about ANZAC day and today we made some poppy art.

To make these we first watched a video. We started with the red flowers. I used red and orange paint to make them.

Next we painted the black part into the centre. I had to be careful because the red paint was still wet and I didn’t want to smudge it.

Last we did the green for the stalk. This was fun because we could make it squiggly.

Narrative writing

WALT- plan and write a narrative

We have been planning and writing narratives in class. We learnt that narratives have a problem and a solution.

We had to make sure that our introductions were interesting so that they would hook people into reading the story.

Here are a few from our class.

We really liked making up different stories and being able to be creative.

It was fun to add characters to a story.

What  do you like to write about?

The Story of Puwheke

WALT- retell a story using art

WALT- create art using different materials.

We have been learning lots about the story of Puwheke.

We created some art work that represents the story.

We chose whether we made a mountain, waka or octopus. We had to design it and figure what we were going to use to make our mountain, octopus or waka.

Our favourite part was that we got to choose the thing we wanted to make and pick the items we were going to use to make them.

Next time we want to create a video that goes with the characters that we have made to use them to tell the story.

Do you like what we have made?

Have you ever made something like this before? What was it?

The Story of Moehuri

WALT- retell a story

WALT- use shapes to create different characters from a story and share it on google slides.

We learnt the story of Moehuri. Then we had to rewrite the story ourselves. We used the shape tools on google draw and created the characters for our story. These are some of the stories we made.

The Moehuri story is from 800 years ago!

Reflection:

We liked that we got to be creative when we made the characters and we liked learning about Moehuri because it is a story from 800 years ago and it connects to our school area and our ancestors.

Next time we want to add more detail to our writing and to our characters.

Have you ever heard of Moehuri? (if you haven’t you can look at these slides).

Do you have any stories about your ancestors?

Animals

WALHT- research facts about different animals and make a report about them.

WALT- use google slides to present our work.

We had to pick an animal and find facts about it using books and google searches. We used google slides to write our facts about our animals and we had to use different text boxes and pictures.

Here are Leo and Halo’s reports.

Reflection:

We liked that we got to search for animal facts because it was fun finding out new information. We also liked that we got to choose pictures of our animals.

Next time we want to try to research 2 different animals and compare them to each other to see what is different about them.

Do you like our reports?

What would you write a report on if you were able to?

The Story of Moehuri

WALT- understand the story of Moehuri.

WALT- write a cinquain poem.

We had to write cinquain poems. We had to come up with words that were to do with Moehuri and his adventure to Mangōnui Harbour.

Once we had decided on the words we were going to use we wrote our poems. After we were finished the writing we printed them out and we drew a picture of Moehuri’s Waka. When we were drawing our Waka we had to make sure it was accurate to what Moehuri may have travelled here on.

Reflection:

We liked that we got to learn about how Moehuri was a brave leader and that we learnt that cinquian poems only have 5 lines and each line goes up by 1 word each time.

Next time I would use new or different words to describe Moehuri.

What do you like about our Cinquain poems?
